Located on the Hong River’s left bank, just 10km east of Hanoi in Gia Lam District, Bat Trang is Vietnam’s most renowned and historically significant pottery village. Explore centuries of ceramic tradition in this iconic cultural destination.

Bat Trang Pottery Village, a continuously developing center of traditional craft, evolved from Bach Tho Phuong, with its foundational heritage linked to Bo Bat Village (Bach Bat Village) in Ninh Binh Province. This historical background is integral to understanding the village’s enduring prominence in Vietnamese pottery.

A short 15km journey west of Hanoi leads to Van Phuc Village, a historic silk-making center in Ha Dong. This village’s craft has seen a strong resurgence, fueled by the growing popularity of its silk creations among both domestic and overseas consumers.

Once a symbol of opulence, reserved for the world’s elite, silk has evolved into an affordable luxury. This fine, lustrous fabric, derived from silkworm cocoons, now offers everyday consumers a touch of elegance and sophistication.

Itinerary

8:30 AM: Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi, driver to Bat Trang, the famous village is situated approx 15km outside of Hanoi, surrounded by fertile farmland. Watch the artisans forming, painting and glazing their products, which are then baked for several days in huge kilns.
12 PM: Lunch at local restaurant!
1:30 PM: Drive to discover full afternoon in the silk village of Van Phuc. Taking photos & shopping there until 4:30 PM. Leaving Van Phuc Silk Village to hotel. Arrive hotel at 5:00 PM. Finish the unforgettable trip at your hotel in Hanoi.
